In his first action of the 1999 season, Huard replaced Dan Marino and completed 24 of 42 passes for 240 yards with two touchdowns and an interception to lead the Dolphins to a 31-30 victory over the Patriots (10/17/99), despite being sacked nine times. He added 54 yards on six carries, including a long run of 25 yards and earned Miller Lite NFL Player of the Week honors.

Jets (9/15): Saw his first regular-season game action as a Patriot in their 44-7 win over the Jets … In his only series, orchestrated a seven-play, 37-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Chicago (11/10): Ran in behind center out of a punt formation and converted a quarterback sneak for four yards on fourth-and-one to gain a first down in the second quarter … Helped to continue a drive on which the Patriots scored their first points of the afternoon on a 57-yard field goal by Adam Vinatieri as the Patriots went on to a thrilling, 33-30 comeback win over the Bears.

With Miami Dolphins: Started just one game for the Dolphins and improved to 5-1 as a starter with a win over the Colts at Indianapolis (11/26) … Saw action in every game as a holder on field goal and PAT units, but only saw action in three games at quarterback, including two in a reserve role … For the season, he completed 61.9 percent of his pass attempts (39-of-63) for 319 yards and one touchdown … He was also intercepted three times. vs. N.Y. Jets (11/19): Saw his first action of the season at quarterback when he replaced Jay Fiedler, who suffered a pinched nerve during the first offensive series of the game … Huard completed 16 of 29 attempts for 128 yards, but threw three interceptions in the loss. Also rushed for 13 yards on three attempts. Dallas (11/25): Saw action in a reserve role and completed four-of-five passes for 44 yards with a long of 27 ... Also rushed once for six yards. N.Y. Jets (12/12): Saw reserve action late in the game and connected on six-of-seven passes for 75 yards, including a touchdown and a long of 18 yards ... His touchdown pass was an 8-yard toss to Gadsden. With Frankfurt Galaxy (NFL Europe): Started every game for the Frankfurt Galaxy after being allocated by the Dolphins to NFL Europe in the Spring of 1998 ... Completed 159 of 290 passes (54.8%) for 1,857 yards with 12 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a rating of 78.2 ... Also rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on 28 attempts ... Completion percentage led the league, yardage total and rating were third and 12 touchdown passes ranked fourth ... Led club to a 7-3 record and a berth in World Bowl ’98 . . .
