Patriots' third all time sack leader with 36.5 sacks. 1991- Played in 16 games with four starts at defensive end...marked first season since 1986 that he played in all 16 games...finished with 41 tackles (33 solos), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four sacks...had first sack of season at Indianapolis (9/1)...made first of four consecutive starts (first start since 11/4/90) at defensive end at Pittsburgh (9/15) and had four solo tackles and a sack...had season high five tackles (four solos) at Phoenix (9/29). 1990- Played in seven games, with two starts...had 22 tackles (14 solos), one forced fumble and two sacks...had arthroscopic surgery on right knee in training camp and missed first week of regular season (vs. Miami 9/9)...saw first action of season at Indianapolis (9/16) and had one tackle...had four tackles (three solos) vs. Seattle (10/8), including a sack which forced a fumble (recovered by Brent Williams who returned it 45 yards for a TD)...had five solo tackles and a sack at Miami (10/18)...started two games at DE (vs. Buffalo 10/28 and at Philadelphia 11/4)...injured right knee in Eagles game and had arthroscopic surgery 11/6...spent three weeks on the inactive list (vs. Indianapolis 11/11, at Buffalo 11/18 and at Phoenix 11/25)...placed on Injured Reserve 12/1 and missed remainder of season. 1989- Placed on Injured Reserve (9/4) (prior to final cutdown) with a left knee injury suffered vs. Green Bay (9/1) in a preseason game...had surgery (9/5) to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn medial collateral ligament, as well as the inner cartilage (medial meniscus)...missed entire season. 1988- Started nine of 11 games...had to miss five games because of knee injury suffered in first quarter of Buffalo game (10/23)...started first eight games of season, returned to lineup for second to last game (vs. Tampa Bay 12/11) and returned to starting lineup for season finale at Denver (12/17)...was team's winner of annual Ed Block award for bouncing back from an injury (selected 1/6/89)...at Denver (12/17), had seven tackles (five solos)...had arthroscopic surgery to repair ligaments in knee (10/26). 1987- Had outstanding season with 49 tackles from end position (27 solos)...shared team's Jim Lee Hunt Award as best lineman with rookie OT Bruce Armstrong (as selected by the coaches)...was second on team in sacks with seven for 79 yards...had nine solo tackles at Giants (11/8). 1986- Started 15 games; missed opener vs. Indianapolis (9/7) (foot injury, but came into game later)...first full year as starter, playing the right defensive end position...led team in sacks with 11 for 74 yards, had an impressive seven passes knocked down, had two fumbles recovered and forced four fumbles...named team's top lineman (annual Jim Lee Hunt Award) at end of the season by Patriots' coaching staff for his consistent play...finished in seventh place tie for sacks among AFC players...midway through season, had at least one sack in five straight games...named AFC's Defensive Player of Month for November...at New Orleans (11/30), forced fumble by QB Dave Wilson, and Brent Williams took it for game winning TD of 21 yards with 1:49 left in game (made score 21-13)...was selected AP All-Pro (HM). 1985- Had outstanding rookie campaign, as selected to the UPI All-Rookie team, the Pro Football Writers All-Rookie team, and named the 1776 Quarterback Booster Club Rookie of Year...second best sack total on team with 10 (NE Rookie Record) and added one pass deflection and two forced fumbles during regular season...in playoffs, had 14 tackles (10 1st hits); led team in playoff sacks with four for 49 yards and had two pass deflections, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble as well as two pass delfections and one interception...replaced Kenneth Sims in starting lineup for last seven games of 20 game season (starting with Detroit game of 12/8)...also started one game at right end spot, at Chicago (9/15), replacing injured Toby Williams...in playoffs, at NY Jets (12/18), had fine game with three sacks for 35 yards, one forced fumble (recovered by Jets after 27 yard loss on play), one deflected pass, four solo tackles (3rd on team), one interception (1st of career) and an 18 yard fumble return to NY 17...in AFC title game, at Miami (1/12/86), recovered fumble on Miami's 1st play of game to set up Patriots field goal; also sacked Marino for 14 yard loss in second half (only sack of game for either team). Drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 1985 draft (48th player selected).

Began his career at TE, then moved to linebacker; worked at both DE and OLB the last three years...improved his draft position by having outstanding Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine games; selected Defensive MVP in both all star games...played with both broken thumb and sprained ankle as a senior...was 8th top tackler on team as senior, as teams ran away from him - led team in behind line tackles with 11, in sacks with five...named honorable mention AP All-America and UPI second team All-America and 1st team All-PAC 10 in 1984...made 2nd team All-PAC 10 as junior, making 71 tackles (44 solos), with 12 tackles for loss (high on team) and team high of seven sacks.
