Information pertaining to 2010 auditions will be posted in the winter of 2009. For a general idea of how the audition process works, please read details below from our 2009 audition. If you'd like to be placed on our audition email list, send your name and email address to tracys@patriots.com.

General Information and Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and must be a high school graduate or have a GED by the date of preliminary auditions in order to participate. No exceptions will be made. Please bring a photo ID. There is no maximum age limit and we do not have a height requirement. Please note that preliminary auditions will be held on one day only. If you are unable to attend that day, there will not be a make-up date scheduled. We do not accept videotapes in lieu of auditioning. Preliminary auditions will not be open for public viewing. Only participants will be permitted into the audition facility.

You should wear work-out attire and sneakers or dance shoes for the audition and be sure to bring warm-ups as it will get cool during the waiting periods. A neat and polished appearance is best. Your hair and make-up should be “performance” ready. Think “glamour” rather than “sporty.” Your outfit should complement your figure. You should also bring plenty to drink and a good lunch.

Upon arrival, all participants will be given a waiver to read and sign. Additionally, you will be given an application form that you will need to complete and submit with a $20.00 registration fee. You may complete the application in advance by downloading the form from the audition site of the cheerleader section on Patriots.com. Then, you can simply bring the completed form with you on the day of preliminary auditions. Audition numbers will be assigned as candidates turn in their applications.

It is suggested that you bring a resume and a current photograph of yourself. Your resume should outline your performance, employment and educational background, and any other interesting information about yourself, e.g., hobbies, special talents, etc. The photograph can be color or black and white, and any size is fine. It can be a headshot or a full length. Please note that resumes and photographs will not be returned.

The tentative itinerary is as follows: Two dance combinations will be taught during the preliminary audition process. There will also be a freestyle dance segment as well, giving you the opportunity to showcase your own talents. Music will be provided that day. The song is yet to be determined but it will be a high energy dance song. Participants will be asked to perform the combinations in small groups for a panel of judges. Tabulations will be made throughout the day and two rounds of eliminations will take place. By the end of the day, approximately 50 participants will be selected to compete in the final round, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fidelity Investments Clubhouse West at Gillette Stadium. As with preliminaries, if you are selected to this round of auditions and are unable to attend, there will not be a make-up date scheduled. Current cheerleaders are not required to compete in preliminary auditions, but those electing to re-audition will join the group at finals.

During the week between preliminary and final auditions, candidates will be asked to report to Gillette Stadium for a personal interview with Tracy Sormanti, Cheerleader Director. At final auditions, you will be asked to perform the routines you learned at preliminaries. You will also again be asked to perform a short freestyle combination with your own choreography, to showcase your personal style. You will be taught and required to perform a kick line combination. A swimsuit category will be included in the final audition process, as well as a meet and greet/Q&A segment with the judging panel. Please note: Don’t worry if you do not have modeling experience. You’re not being scored on modeling technique, but instead on your poise, presence and confidence. Scores will once again be based on dance ability, showmanship, appearance and level of physical fitness, and your personal interview score will be factored in as well.

By the end of the day, the line captains for the 2009 Patriots Cheerleading squad will be announced. Approximately 40 participants will be invited back to attend four optional practices over a two week period, and further evaluations will be made. This extended process will give me an opportunity to work with candidates on a more personal basis, so that I can best determine abilities, talents and commitment before making final eliminations. By March 19, the final 24 member Patriots Cheerleading Squad will be announced.

Those being selected to the 2009 Patriots Cheerleading Squad will be required to attend two rehearsals each week, held at Gillette Stadium. These practices are generally held on Tuesday evenings (7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.) and Saturdays OR Sundays (full day, usually 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.), from March through September. From October through season-end, practices will be generally held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, leaving weekends free for promotional opportunities. Please note that there may be variations in that schedule as Gillette Stadium is a multi-use facility, requiring some scheduling flexibility. Rehearsals will begin the week following final auditions. Patriots Cheerleaders do not perform at away games but perform at all 10 home games at Gillette Stadium, as well as any home playoff games. Should the Patriots play in the Super Bowl, the cheerleaders would likely travel to that game. Patriots Cheerleaders are part-time employees of the organization, and are compensated for practices, games and public appearances.

Here is more exciting news! All 24 members will be receiving an all-expense paid trip to Aruba, staying at the Divi and Tamarijn Resorts from April 24 through May 1, 2009 to shoot our 2010 Patriots Cheerleaders Swimsuit calendar! Every cheerleader will be featured on a full page in this very prestigious calendar. Please visit the Upcoming Events section of the cheerleader link of www.patriots.com/cheerleaders for full details!
(Note; this trip is tentative, not guaranteed, and is based on trip bookings).

In addition to the calendar shoot, Patriots Cheerleaders will receive many other benefits, which may include but are not limited to complimentary hair services, tanning and cosmetic dentistry services. International travel opportunities may be presented as well. Patriots Cheerleaders have appeared on many local and national television shows such as Entertainment Tonight, E! Television, Inside Edition, Fox News National, the Late Show with David Letterman, On-Air with Ryan Seacrest, Good Morning America and the CBS Early Show, just to name a few. The ladies have also appeared in national publications such as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Maxim, Muscle and Fitness, FHM (U.S. and China publications) and Men’s Style. Cheerleaders have made personal appearances throughout the United States and have entertained U.S. military troops stationed in more than 25 countries since 9/11. The Patriots Cheerleaders have made three trips to China to promote the NFL and the Patriots, and to train Chinese cheerleaders for the Olympic Games. Travel out of New England and appearances for corporate and charitable organizations are cast based on individual availability.

Again, thank you for your interest. Good luck and I look forward to meeting you soon!

Cheers,

Tracy Sormanti

Auditions for the 2009 Patriots Cheerleading Squad began in mid-February. First, an optional workshop was offered as a means of better preparing candidates for the audition process. A week later, Preliminary Auditions took place, and almost 300 hopefuls attended with the hopes of earning a coveted spot on the 2009 squad. After a twelve-hour day, the field was narrowed down to 65 semi-finalists. Each candidate visted Gillette Stadium for a half hour personal interview with Cheerleader Director, Tracy Sormanti. A practice was held mid-week and Final Auditions took place on March 7. After performing two choreographed routines that were taught at preliminaries, a free style dance round, a series of high kicks and splits, an optional tumbling pass, a swimsuit modeling segment, a written quiz on football and Patriots facts and a meet and greet with the judges, the pool was narrowed down to 34 finalists. Over the next week and a half, the finalsts attended three intensive rehearsals at which they learned new choreography, ran the ramps at Gillette Stadium, did calisthenics and participated in public speaking training sessions. On March 17, the 2009 Patriots Cheerleading Squad was announced. The group will begin training immediately, and all will travel to Aruba on April 24 to shoot their annual swimsuit calendar.
