The Patriots Celebrate Volunteerism
This Week we Celebrate Hunger Awareness Volunteerism!
For the week of Nov. 18, the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation will work in collaboration with Ecumenical Community Food Pantry of Norwood, First United Methodist Church Food Pantry and Weymouth Council for the Hungry/Weymouth Food Pantry. How do hunger awareness volunteers make an impact? Ecumenical Community Food Pantry of Norwood
- Because there are a lot of people who are hungry
- Because it’s important to help people keep their dignity
- When it comes to a choice between keeping the heat on and feeding the family, we help to make that choice easier
First United Methodist Church Food Pantry
- Making sure nobody goes hungry
- None should have to choose between food, medicine or shelter
Weymouth Council for the Hungry/Weymouth Food Pantry
- No one should ever go hungry in America
- Participation increases awareness and helps to provide food to those in need
- Provides an opportunity for the community to pull together to help families in need
Congratulations to this week's "Patriots Difference Maker" – Steve Silva Steve SilvaVolunteer, Weymouth Council for the Hungry/Weymouth Food Pantry
Volunteerism at the Weymouth Food Pantry is more important than ever. The Weymouth Food Pantry thrives and survives because of the volunteers who do all much of the work, the planning and the outreach. Steve Silva is a shining example of a most valued volunteer. He is a ‘can do anything and everything’ kind of guy. Steve started as part of a team with his wife, Sally, doing deliveries of emergency groceries to home-bound elderly and disabled that were in need in our community. He then started helping with stocking shelves, doing orders, doing pick-ups around town and anything else that can come up while he is at the Pantry. To add to the list, one day, Steve asked about our website. The rest as they say, is history. Steve up-dated the website, started a quarterly newsletter through the website and has updated all our written materials with the help of a new formed communications committee. As far as being a model volunteer, Steve has it covered!
