Congratulations to this week's "Patriots Difference Maker" - Paul Corcoran
Paul CorcoranVolunteer, Jordan Boys & Girls Club of ChelseaPaul Corcoran began volunteering because he had some extra time during his retirement. He joined the Jordan Club just over six years ago and remains a consistent member of our education team. His devotion to our Club members, however, goes beyond his weekly six hours of volunteering with homework assistance, test prep, and reading assistance. He has quietly supported members and families in expanding their educational opportunities. Paul has quite a bit of a commute to get to our Club. “I have been given so much in my life. And I recognized that the kids in Chelsea have so little. So the extra gas spent to get here is so worth the investment in these kids.” And that investment that Paul describes is much more than gas and time: He has helped students cover costs of exam school tests; he has driven a family to their child’s graduation ceremony. He quietly connects with dozens of Club members every week, and makes sure that each one of them has the resources he or she needs to have a successful school year. Our Clubhouse is diverse: 6% white, 76% Latino, 5% African American, 13% Other or Multiracial. Our community faces daunting challenges, such as a culture of high school dropout, teen pregnancy, gang violence, drugs and crime. Paul quietly promotes a new direction for Chelsea youth, changing lives every day. Paul has shown everyone here at the Jordan Boys & Girls Club that he is truly the ideal example of the “Greatest Generation”.

Boys & Girls Clubs of BostonIn every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is the place where great futures are started each and every day.
Hockomock Area YMCA The Hockomock Area YMCA is an organization of men, women, and children sharing a commitment to nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living, and foster a sense of social responsibility.
