Tom Brady Named AFC Offensive Player of the Month
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that Tom Brady has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December/January. It is the second time in 2011 that Brady has been named Offensive Player of the Month. He also earned the honor for his performance in the month of November. It is the sixth time overall that Brady has earned an AFC Player of the Month honor. He was the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September and October in 2007, the month of October in 2009 and for the month of December in 2010, in addition to the two honors in 2011.
Brady led New England to a 5-0 record in the month of December and January and completed 124 of 190 pass attempts for 1,608 yards and 11 touchdowns with a passer rating of 106.6. He threw for 300 yards in four of the five games. Brady's 1,608 yards led the AFC for the month and his 11 touchdown passes tied for a conference-best with San Diego's Philip Rivers.
In Week 16, Brady completed 27 of 46 passes for 304 yards with three touchdowns (one passing, two rushing) in the Patriots' 27-24 win over Miami. Brady helped erase a 17-0 deficit in the second half, completing 20 of 27 passes (74.1 percent) for 217 yards with one TD pass and a 109.6 passer rating. He also added two one-yard touchdown runs.
In Week 17, Brady helped erase a 21-0 first-quarter deficit to defeat Buffalo, 49-21, the second consecutive week in which the Patriots won a game after trailing by at least 17 points. He threw three touchdown passes and reached 300 for his career. Brady is the sixth player in NFL history to reach 300 touchdown passes, joining Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Fran Tarkenton, and John Elway. Brady is tied with Elway for fifth on the NFL's all-time touchdown pass list.
