Patriots.com News Blitz - 3/15/2012
Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com cites a report from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports saying that free-agent running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis is scheduled to visit with the Cincinnati Bengals. Reiss writes, "The Patriots haven't closed the door on Green-Ellis' return, but this looks like a situation where the market dictates if it happens." Jason Cole also noted that the Patriots are showing interest in free-agent safety LaRon Landry.
Shalise Manza Young of The Boston Globe notes that a league source has confirmed that the Patriots have come to terms with special-teamer Tracy White. White had 14 special-teams tackles last season and added 25 tackles as a linebacker on defense.
Ian R. Rapoport of The Boston Herald reports that the Patriots are expected to receive a visit from ex-Redskins safety LaRon Landry this weekend. Former Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez is also said to be arriving to Foxborough on Friday, while safety Steve Gregory of the Chargers visited yesterday. Rapoport writes on Landry, "I'm told he's healthy now. If the Patriots are looking for an in-the-box safety, this would be the guy. Still not quite sure about the fit alongside Patrick Chung, and it seems a stellar coverage player might be a better call. Perhaps a converted corner. But for a guy as talented as Landry, it's worth the visit."
Christopher Price of WEEI.com gives us his five thoughts on the second day of free-agency. He looks at the players who are reportedly set to visit Foxborough, and also gives an update on BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com writes about a rumor that free-agent WR Danny Amendola is visiting the Patriots. Amendola missed 2011 with a dislocated elbow that he suffered in the season opener. Curran calls Amendola "a Welker clone."
