Patriots.com News Blitz - 3/27/2012
James Walker & Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com write that Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick may not be done adding wide receivers to the roster. To date, the Patriots have signed free-agents Brandon Lloyd, Donte' Stallworth and Anthony Gonzalez while also re-signing Deion Branch and Chad Ochocinco. That leaves 10 wideouts currently on the roster, but is there room for more? "There are some guys that I'm sure will be at that position that aren't even on our team right now, that we're not even talking about. It's just a process," explained Belichick at the NFL Annual Meetings in Palm Beach, Florida. Walker and Reiss note that there should be good competition during camp, with possibly more layers added to the mix as the offseason continues.
Shalise Manza Young of The Boston Globe writes that the Patriots have hired Chris Simms, a league source confirms. "It sounds as though Simms, who played quarterback for the Buccaneers, Titans and Broncos, will do a bit of everything with the Pats, on both the coaching and personnel sides," writes Manza Young. Simms played for the Denver Broncos under Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in 2009.
Karen Guregian of The Boston Herald reports that Patriots defensive end Brandon Deaderick and offensive lineman Nick McDonald volunteered at a Fall River, MA soup kitchen yesterday. "Everyone needs to experience something like this," Deaderick told the club's media staff at the event. "In light of being fortunate, I believe it is like a duty to help those who need help, so today we served drinks, bread, a good meal and even dessert to anyone that came."
Ricky Doyle of NESN.com writes that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will speak at the University of Rhode Island on April 12. The event, titled "SEC Presents Robert Gronkowski from the New England Patriots!!," will cost $7 for URI students and $15 for the general public to attend.
