Patriots.com News Blitz - 4/6/2012
Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com writes that one possibility for the Patriots at the safety position may be veteran Yeremiah Bell, who was released by the Dolphins in mid-March. According to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel, both the Patriots and Eagles have expressed interest in Bell, yet neither team seems highly motivated to get a deal done before the draft. "If Bell doesn't sign with a team before the draft, and the Patriots don't come out of the draft with a safety, perhaps the sides revisit things at that time," writes Reiss. The 6-foot, 205-pound Bell has started every game but one over the last four seasons.
Mike Reiss also reports that Louisiana State defensive lineman Michael Brockers was spotted at Patriot Place and Gillette Stadium this week. One of the top defensive line prospects in this year's NFL Draft, Brockers was presumably taking a pre-draft visit to the Patriots, according to Reiss. "The team's interest in Brockers wouldn't be a surprise as he has been described by some analysts as a potential 'Richard Seymour-type of player.' Since trading Seymour prior to the 2009 season, the Patriots haven't decisively filled Seymour's void at right end."
Karen Guregian of The Boston Herald reports that Patriots' free-agent linebacker Gary Guyton has a visit lined up with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, according to agent Sean Stellato. "Stellato indicated there have been some calls with teams showing interest in Guyton. They're going to deal with the Dolphins first, and go from there," writes Guregian.
