News Blitz 3/28: Patriots in the mix for free agent DeSean Jackson?
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com writes that the Patriots could be "thrown into the mix" as a potential suitor for free agent WR DeSean Jackson, who was released earlier today by the Philadelphia Eagles. Florio lists the 49ers, Seahawks and Jets as teams that "definitely were interested" in Jackson before his release.
"At this point, we know only that the Eagles aren’t interested in keeping him around — and that the Eagles weren’t able to line up a trade partner," adds Florio. Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com reports that Iowa TE C.J. Fiedorowicz is scheduled to visit with the Patriots in April as the team prepares for the NFL Draft.
"Fiedorowicz ran a 4.7-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine," notes Curran. "The Patriots will definitely be in the market for a tight end upgrade in this draft given the passing game limitations of their non-Gronk tight ends and the brittleness of Gronk himself." READ MORE>>
"The Patriots spent a lot of time with Lee at the combine, and they have shown interest in other top wideouts such as Evans and Benjamin," writes Kyed. "Lee is a nice fit for the Patriots’ offense and could challenge Dobson and LaFell for the starting job at “X” receiver. Lee had highly productive freshman and sophomore seasons with the Trojans, but a knee injury slowed him in 2013." READ MORE>>
