Every year the ESPYs awards ceremoney celebrates the best the year in sports has to offer, and with the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, the Patriots were nominated for six awards. Of course, the guys took full advantage of the occasion, dressing to the nines and hitting the red carpet to celebrate the nominations and the season that was.
Julian Edelman, James White, Danny Amendola, Trey Flowers, Malcolm Butler, Dion Lewis and Nate Ebner were in Los Angeles to represent the team and to collect the award for "Best Game." Though the Patriots only walked away with one ESPY for the thrilling and historic Super Bowl LI victory, the guys certainly made the most of it.
The Patriots selfied the night away, showing off their award and new Super Bowl rings, and before the ceremony began, they hit the red carpet in style, strutting their stuff like professional models -- literally a pro in the case of Danny.
Super Bowl LI beat out the Cubs Game 7 win and Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal's Australian Open match for Best Game, and Julian accepted the award on behalf of the organization, giving a shoutout to Patriots Nation and poking fun at host Peyton Manning's expense in his acceptance speech.
"I never really thought I’d say this but Peyton Manning is kind of killing it. We are indoors though," he joked. "Other than that, Patriots Nation, we love you guys. Thank you for voting for us. It was a crazy game -- high blood pressure, a lot of ups and downs. I'll tell you right now, all of these guys in the locker room, we’re down a bunch of points and everybody looked at each other and you saw a sense of focus. It was one of those things where we have a tough group of guys, mentally and physically, anything can happen, and that’s the great thing about sports."
If nothing else, the ESPYs are a great reminder of the power of sports. From motivational athletes to stories of triumph, sports truly bring people together and inspire hope. Like Julian always says, you just got to believe, and in celebrating Super Bowl LI, it is a lesson no football fan will soon forget. Read
