With the start of free agency set for Wednesday, Boston.com offers a complete guide to the flurry of activity that is sure to ensue. Malcolm Butler continues to be at the center of the Patriots offseason, and now there are rumors indicating the corner may be in the plans for Detroit and their new coach, former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. ESPN.com says the Patriots should focus on retaining their own players first in free agency. If Dion Lewis is not one of those players, the team will need to reinvent itself at running back. The Boston Globe believes New England will have some competition to re-sign Lewis. MassLive.com wonders if this could be a much quieter offseason for the Patriots than last year.
The Boston Herald says the Patriots will likely have a plan with or without Nate Solder. The Texans are reportedly interested in making a run at the left tackle. Rob Gronkowski might be a different story, and they believe he team needs to be ready to adjust in necessary.
The Patriot Ledger says the potential losses via free agency could be widespread and impactful. NBC Sports Boston is looking for a cheap edge rushing alternative for the Patriots in free agency. The Patriots likely won’t be able to go crazy in free agency, but NBC Sports Boston says they must do something.
