Bill Belichick Postgame Press Conference Transcript

Posted Oct 20, 2013

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his postgame press conference at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

Opening Statement...
Obviously a disappointing loss for us today. I didn't feel like we did anything well enough like the way we need to do it. This goes for coaching, playing, offense, defense, special teams, you name it. We made too many mistakes and we just didn't play and coach well enough today. We have to do a better job, we're better than that.

On how the field goal penalty was explained to him...
The call was for pushing.

On whether the penalty was before or during the field goal attempt...
Before, it was on the field goal for pushing.

On his thoughts about the call...
We weren't on the second level when we pushed him.

On the third down struggles today...
We just didn't perform well enough. We have to coach better, play better, and we just need to do a better job. We just weren't consistent.

On Rob Gronkowski's first game back...
I don't know. I'll have to look at the film.

On the explanation of the penalty...
You can't push from the second level, but I don't think we did that.

On if it is frustrating that they called the penalty...
(In-audible)

On whether the Jets changed their approach in the second half on Tom Brady...
No, I don't think so. I mean they mixed it up, but it was kind of the same. It was the same mix, saw a lot of dime on third down. I'll look on the film to see if there is anything I missed. They mixed it up in the first half and they mixed it up in the second half. It was pretty much the same calls.

On seeing Geno Smith compared to the first time he saw him in Week Two...
He played well enough to win today. We'll leave it at that.

On his thoughts about Rob Gronkowski...
I thought he went out there and competed. We just didn't make enough plays. We didn't play well enough or coach well enough. We'll take a look at the film and see how everyone can be evaluated.

On the frustration of not converting on third down...
We just didn't do well enough, obviously. We need to coach better and play better. We have to make some of those plays.

On the penalty explanation on the field goal attempt in overtime...
Yeah, we've already been through that a few times.

On whether the second level pushing is a reviewable penalty...
There are no reviews in overtime.

On whether second level pushing is an new penalty introduced this year...
Yes, they eliminate the pushing on the second level.
