Bill Belichick Postgame Press Conference Transcript

Posted Sep 29, 2013

New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick addresses the media following the Patriots regular season game versus the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome on Sunday, September 29, 2013.

Opening Statement:
"Once again 60 minutes that’s the way that it is in the NFL. I’m really proud of the way our team played today. We had a good second half against a good football team. As usual they fought right to the end that’s a good club that Coach Smith has over there in Atlanta. They fought us hard straight to the end and fortunately we were able to make a couple more plays. They made a good example of what it takes to win in this League, and that’s 60 minutes of good football. We have to do a better job of finishing out the game. We did a good job of putting ourselves in that position to win with a 17 point lead and 6 minutes to go in the game. Obviously, we could have played a little better in the end but it’s good to be 4-0 and to get out of here with a win."

The play of your offense with over 400 yards tonight:
"We did some good things in every phase of the game. There were some good things but then there were some not so good things obviously. We have to keep working to improve."

How important was it to establish the run in the 2nd half:
"It’s important to move the ball to score points. So whatever we need to do that. It’s always good to have balance and we will do whatever we need to do to try and make that work."

The play of the defensive guys:
"I thought we competed well with the receivers. In the end they made a few plays, a couple of big plays in the fourth quarter. Obviously we had our trouble with the TE and the back in the first half but we did a good job on them and had to tighten up on the receivers. That’s a good skilled team offensively. They have good tight ends, good backs, good receivers and a good quarterback. It’s hard to get them all stopped but I thought our guys competed hard against them."

The play of CB Aqib Talib:
"Aqib played well for us all the way back to the spring and training camp. He played well. He played the ball well against good receivers. He tackled well. He covered well. He’s done a good job for us since he has been here."

The play of K Steven Gostkowski not just making 30 yard Field Goals:
"With Steve it obviously made the difference in the game, part of the difference in the game I know it was a 7-point game but that was a big kick for us to make it a three score game. He’s done a good job. It’s a good operation. All those guys, LS Danny Aiken and P/H Ryan Allen and Steve, it’s a good operation."
