Brandon Lloyd Interview Transcript

Posted May 24, 2012

New England Patriots WR Brandon Lloyd addresses the media during player access on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

Q: How are things going?

BL: Plugging away. Just getting into our OTAs and understanding the process and the way that the plays are called and run and just the execution of the workouts and the timing and the scheduling. It’s been a change and I’m excited to see how everything works out.

Q: Do you think it’s going to be a difficult system for you to pick up?

BL: No.

Q: What’s it like working with Tom Brady?

BL: It’s good. [He’s] definitely professional; makes the throws, makes the correct reads and delivers the ball.

Q: How does the connection with Josh McDaniels help in terms of the transition?

BL: It helps because I’m familiar with the offense. I’m familiar with the nuances of the offense so that definitely helps with the transition coming to this team.

Q: You made no secret about how much you liked this team. What specifically do you feel suits your skill set?

BL: I just feel like it was effective. It was effective for the way that I run routes and catch the ball.

Q: You’ve had a few stops around the league. What has jumped out to you so far about the ‘Patriot Way’?

BL: The coaching, the way that the message is delivered and the way that the coaches coach and the players all fall in line. It’s been a good experience so far.

Q: In terms of this wide receiving corps, how are you guys getting along? Where do you see yourself fitting in with these guys?

BL: It’s just one of those things – only time will tell. There are a lot of pass catchers on this team who have been effective, not only on this team but in other parts of their career, so only time will tell.

Q: How potent do you think this offense can be, especially with you in the lineup?

BL: Only time will tell. We still have a lot of work to do. We have a lot of practices ahead of us. We still have a lot of work to do before we can start making any predictions like that.

Q: What have you learned about Tom Brady since you’ve been here so far?

BL: That he’s good. He’s good from far away and he’s good up close.

Q: In terms of the offense and what you’ve digested so far, how close is it to what you were doing in Denver and St. Louis?

BL: It’s pretty close. Obviously the terminology is mostly the same; [it’s] pretty much the same.

Q: What are your thoughts on the overall wide receiver group? There are a lot of accomplished players at the position.

BL: Like I said, there are a lot of talented pass catchers not only that are on this team and played last year but that are new to the team and were successful at previous stops. There’s a lot of talent there.

Q: Is there something about the relationship with Josh McDaniels that is conducive to you having a lot of success?

BL: The way the plays are called is very good for the way that I run routes and catch the ball.

Q: What’s the atmosphere like with so many professional and accomplished guys like you, Jabar Gaffney and Donte’ Stallworth?

BL: It’s everybody, including Wes [Welker] and Gronk [Rob Gronkowski] and the tight ends. Everybody has been communicating and excited. However this pans out, however the lineup falls, it’s going to be a talented group of players.

Q: How has the acclimation process to New England gone? You probably hadn’t been up here a ton prior to signing.

BL: It’s been good. I’ve always wanted to visit the upper northeast, so it’s a good opportunity.

Q: Every day is [sunny] like this.

BL: No, every day is like yesterday. The last two weeks have been overcast, so this is nice.

Q: Have you ever gone to a team with so many weapons on it, like this one has?

BL: No.

Q: What kind of preconceived notions did you have about the Patriots going into the signing?

BL: None. I think mostly it was [that] there was a particular way things were taken care of. Just like I said, from afar you observe those types of characteristics and the way that they handle themselves on the field and off the field.

Q: What has been the biggest surprise?

BL: I’m still learning.

Q: Of all the receiving corps that you’ve been a part of over your career, what has made the most successful ones so successful in your opinion?

BL: I guess having a good knowledge of the offense and the philosophy and how the offensive coordinator wants it to be run. That’s what makes it successful.

Q: How much of it would it that every receiver brings something unique that when you put them together, everyone has one thing that makes the whole thing special?

BL: You’re going to have to write your own story. I hear what you’re saying but –

Q: Does it make sense?

BL: It makes sense. That helps.
