Cleveland Browns: Josh Gordon Conference Call Transcript

Posted Dec 4, 2013

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon addresses the New England media during his conference call on Wednesday, December 4, 2013.

Q: How do you explain the numbers you have put up the last two or three weeks?

JG: Preparation, I guess. Just preparation and perseverance through the rough season and some tough losses we had on the offensive side. Just really pushing through and trying to stay determined to have a good season.

Q: You mentioned the rough season. What has it been like working with so many quarterbacks because of changes and injury?

JG: It’s definitely not normal. I don’t think there are too many wide receivers who have to deal with that in a single season. It’s kind of rough. We’re still dealing with it now. We’re not really sure as to what we’re going to do, where we’re going to go, but I know [Head] Coach [Rob Chudzinski] will make the right decision and it seems as though they’ve tried to thus far. But, it is pretty rough to get a good rhythm with one quarterback when there have been so many changes. It’s definitely something you can’t get used to.

Q: What was it like working with Brian Hoyer this season before he got injured?

JG: It was a great experience. He is one of those guys who wants to go out there and prove himself every time he steps out on the field. So he definitely has that underdog mentality. He never wants to quit, he’s always fired up about the game. He really loves it. He’s a great guy, but you know it was just cut short for him and that’s unfortunate.

Q: Did you have any interaction with the Patriots when you were drafted?

JG: I sat down once with them at my Pro Day. I didn’t really have a normal draft experiences, but I sat down with them for a few minutes. That was about it.

Q: Did you sit down with Bill Belichick or one of the Patriots scouts?

JG: Oh no, it was just a recruiter or something like that. I’m not sure.

Q: What do you see from Aqib Talib?

JG: You know it seems like he is a real fiery kind of guy. He wants to go out there and prove, I guess, he’s physical and it seems as though he wants to establish himself as one of the top tier cornerbacks, and that’s great and good for him. They have a great defense and he’s a great player. At the same time, I have to go out there and do what I have to do regardless of who I line up against, but there is a lot of credit for what he’s done this season.

Q: Do you see any similarities between him and Joe Haden, or are they different players?

JG: I think they’re similar in regards to being real scrappy football players when the ball is in the air. I think – I am definitely going to be a little more biased to Joe because that’s my teammate. I see him a lot more. When the ball is in the air I think Joe has a higher percentage of coming down with it. But they are both great guys, very solid veteran players. I’ve got respect for both of them, but I really haven’t seen Aqib Talib play very much. I just watched some tape on him today, but this is the first time we’ll get to challenge him in a season, for me. So, it will be an experience.

Q: Are you friendly with anyone on the Patriots team?

JG: I can’t say that I am. I know I trained with – I think I trained with Kenbrell Thompkins a little bit, but I don’t really know him too well. I trained down in Miami with him I think. Is Brandon Spikes still on the team? [Media responds yes] OK, yeah, I think I’ve trained with him as well in Florida. I can’t say too friendly, no.
