Monday 10/14 locker room notes: Rookie receivers discuss the win

Posted Oct 14, 2013

A couple of Patriots shared their thoughts on the victory over the Saints on Columbus Day at Gillette Stadium.

A day following the dramatic come-from-behind victory over the Saints, two rookie wide receivers who played an integral role in the 30-27 Patriots win spoke to the media in the locker room at Gillette Stadium.

One of the game’s many heroes – Kenbrell Thompkins – discussed what his night was like after catching the game winning 17-yard touchdown from Tom Brady with only: 05 seconds remaining on the clock.

“After the game my phone was dead from text messages and everything,” the rookie wideout said with a smile.

“I kind of just went home and kind of just laid down and cleared my mind. I was fortunate and I was happy for this team most importantly."

The game winning 8-play, 70 yard drive was the 38th of Tom Brady’s career.

What was it like being in the huddle with the future Hall-of-Famer in those closing moments?

"It's amazing, man,” admitted rookie wide receiver Aaron Dobson, who contributed with team-high six receptions for 63 yards on Sunday.

“Just to see (Brady) do it like that - it's crazy to be on the field and be a part of that. So, I was excited."

The dramatic closing drive wasn’t the only story of the day.

The Patriots defense limited the prolific New Orleans offense throughout the game, including holding the NFL’s leading receiver – TE Jimmy Graham – to zero receptions.

"That's really hard to do especially with a guy like (Graham) that's having big games every game,” said defensive end Rob Ninkovich.

“To hold him to no catches - I'm sure fantasy guys are going nuts because they're bummed that they got no points from him."

The New England defense also forced a turnover for the 33rd straight game – the longest active streak in the NFL.

“I'm happy that we came out with that victory, and you kind of take it in today and enjoy it for today and tomorrow then it's over and you move on to the Jets,” added Ninkovich.

“It’s an away game - always good to play in New York; good atmosphere, they have lovely fans, and they enjoy our company."
