News Blitz 2/11: League source believes Aqib Talib will have a bigger market this offseason

Posted Feb 11, 2014

The Patriots.com News Blitz gets you up-to-date on the latest Patriots news from local and national media.

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk on NBC Sports reports that Patriots impending free agent CB Aqib Talib will have a bigger market in 2014 than a year ago, according to a league source. Last offseason, Talib hit the open market and returned to New England on a one-year, $5 million deal.

"The Pats have an exclusive opportunity through March 8 to negotiate with Talib," writes Florio. "As of March 11, he hits the market.

"The reality is that, by if not before the Scouting Combine, Talib will have an idea as to what will be behind Door No. 2 as of March 11, if he chooses not to accept whatever the Pats put behind Door No. 1."

Kyle Arrington shared via Facebook that he underwent successful groin surgery on Friday. The Patriots cornerback is expected to be ready for Training Camp.

Ashley Fox of ESPN.com believes that NFL Draft prospect Michael Sam could thrive on the Patriots as an openly gay player due to the team's leadership and culture.

"The Patriot Way might be an urban legend, but Belichick has a way of limiting distractions," writes Fox. "It is why he was willing to invite the Tim Tebow circus to New England last year, and that didn't turn into a circus. It is why he traded for Aqib Talib, who brings on- and off-the-field issues to the table, and then was able to maximize Talib's talents. It is why he took a chance on Randy Moss and why Moss thrived with the Patriots."

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports shares his first mock draft for 2014. He believes the Patriots will select Texas Tech TE Jace Amaro with the 29th pick.

"With Rob Gronkowski coming off another injury and Aaron Hernandez in jail, they need another weapon in the middle of the field," notes Prisco. "They love double-tight looks for when Gronk does come back."
