News Blitz 2/4: Could Houston be a possible landing spot for Edelman?

Posted Feb 4, 2014

The Patriots.com News Blitz gets you up-to-date on the latest Patriots news from local and national media.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com projects Patriots impending free agent CB Aqib Talib to command a three-to-four year contract this offseason worth around $6-8 million per year.

"The factors considered in coming to that conclusion: Last offseason was a buyer’s market for cornerbacks and there are no tell-tale signs right now it will change in 2014, Talib is a top player, and there are also some injury questions as part of the consideration," writes Reiss. "If the numbers ultimately land in that range -- and we know it only takes one team to up the ante -- I think Talib is back in New England."

Reiss also suggests that Houston Texans could be a potential landing spot for Patriots impending free agent WR Julian Edelman.

"As for Julian Edelman’s potential market, it makes sense to think it will be close to Danny Amendola range after Edelman's 105-catch season," adds Reiss. "If that’s the case, the Patriots could absorb it but I think they would ultimately decide not to."

Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com looks at the top-ten storylines in the NFL this offseason. On the list is the injury questions surrounding Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski.

"The difference between the Patriots' offense with and without Gronkowski was stark, and the Patriots must decide whether to plan for his full and immediate return or if they must fortify their skill positions in the passing game from elsewhere," writes Seifert.

John Clayton of ESPN.com shares his early Super Bowl favorites for 2014, and puts the Patriots at No. 4 on the list.

"Clearly, the Patriots have to find a No. 2 tight end and upgrade the outside wide receiver position," writes Clayton. "They are at the cap, so a few players have to be cut. Cornerback Aqib Talib is the Patriots' main coverage cornerback, but he's unsigned. Also unsigned are halfback LeGarrette Blount and linebacker Brandon Spikes."

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com shares his NFL Power Rankings. The Patriots come in at No. 4 on the list.

"Injuries ravaged this team and it still went to the AFC title game," writes Prisco. "Tom Brady does that."
