News Blitz 4/14: Rob Gronkowski to start jogging soon

Posted Apr 14, 2014

The Patriots.com News Blitz gets you up-to-date on the latest Patriots news from local and national media.

Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will begin jogging soon as he continues his recovery from ACL surgery.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com believes Tennessee DL Daniel McCullers could be a second round NFL Draft option for the Patriots this May.

"Would be classified as a 'traits' prospect as he has rare measureables -- 6-foot-6 3/4, 353 pounds, 11-inch hands, and 36.5-inch arm length," notes Reiss. "The team selecting him would be projecting the ability to harness those traits into a more productive football player." READ MORE >>

Christopher Jason of MassLive.com takes a look at Washington State safety Deone Bucannon and writes that he may be a draft option for the Patriots if he's still available at the end of the second round.

"If selected by the Patriots, Bucannon would be an early candidate to play strong safety next to free safety Devin McCourty," writes Jason. "He could be a perfect compliment to McCourty as he could be a true strong safety who can be a force in run support and bring intimidation to the secondary, something the Patriots have not had in a long time." Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com gives his analysis of Notre Dame DT Louis Nix and looks at how the draft prospect could be Patriots friendly.

"With Vince Wilfork nearing the end, and in possession of a deal that may have him heading elsewhere after this season, the Patriots are going to need another elite defensive tackle/nose guard who can consume space and collapse the pocket," writes Curran. "Nix could be the most reasonable replacement of the group on the board as interior defensive line." READ MORE>>

Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports writes that the Patriots will select Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel with the 29th overall pick in his latest mock draft.

"The Internet would break," writes Edholm. "Johnny to the Patriots! Not so fast. Yes, they brought him in for a visit, and oh boy, the thought of him playing for Bill Belichick would be incredible. But the guess is that the Patriots would trade down to a team high in Round 2 that still needs a quarterback. Can you imagine Belichick and Bill O'Brien cooking this up so that the Texans get Clowney and Manziel? Oh, my beloved goodness." READ MORE>>
