News Blitz 5/28: Chandler Jones could be in for another career year

Posted May 28, 2014

The Patriots.com News Blitz gets you up-to-date on the latest Patriots news from local and national media.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald believes Patriots DE Chandler Jones could be in for another career year after his dedication to strengthening his lower body this offseason combined with New England's addition of high-end defensive talent.

"It’s all part of a greater equation, but sack artists are the show-stoppers on defense, and Jones could really break out this year," writes Howe. "He should also be thrilled the Pats retained defensive tackles Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly on new deals and drafted interior thumper Dominique Easley in the first round." READ MORE>>

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston still sees upside in Patriots RB Stevan Ridley.

"He is an error repeater, but there is always a fine line to walk there," adds Reiss. "Former Patriots running back Kevin Faulk, for example, was an error repeater earlier in his career when it came to ball security. The Patriots stuck with him and were rewarded for it." READ MORE>>

Mike Reiss also calls TE D.J. Williams one of five Patriots to follow during OTAs.

"A 2011 fifth-round draft choice of the Packers, the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Williams projects as the top 'move' tight end on the roster at this time," writes Reiss. "He played in 11 offensive snaps for the Patriots last season, so this is a great opportunity for him to show he's capable." READ MORE>>

Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal believes that Logan Ryan's versatility could lead to him make the switch from cornerback to safety for the Patriots this season.

"With the additions of cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, the Pats’ secondary is a bit crowded," notes Daniels. "After releasing safety Steve Gregory, it would make sense to try Logan Ryan at safety, to keep him on the field." READ MORE>>

Doug Kyed of NESN.com reports that Patriots DT Vince Wilfork was limited during the Patriots first OTA session, according to a source.

"It’s a good sign that the 6-foot-2, 325-pounder already is back on the field," adds Kyed. "There were doubts that Wilfork, 32, would be able to make a full recovery at his age and size." READ MORE>>
