Patriots Celebrate Hunger Awareness and Health Care Volunteerism

Posted Dec 22, 2011

The New England Patriots and NEPCF celebrate "Hunger Awareness Volunteerism" and "Health Care Volunteerism" as part of the season-long campaign to honor deserving volunteers.

The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation continued the season-long "Celebrate Volunteerism" campaign with special weekly focuses on "Hunger Awareness Volunteerism," (Nov. 20-26) and "Health Care Volunteerism" (Nov. 27-Dec. 3).

The Foundation teamed with the Greater Boston Food Bank for the week of Nov. 20 for Hunger Awareness Volunteerism. To kick off the hunger focus, the Patriots Charitable Foundation hosted a food collection at the Patriots versus Chiefs game. Patriots fans attending the game donated food at the gates of Gillette Stadium.

As part of Patriots Community Tuesdays and Hunger Awareness Volunteerism week, Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft hosted the 18th Annual Thanksgiving-in-a-Basket event on Nov. 22 at Morgan Memorial Goodwill with Patriots players including Vince Wilfork, Rob Gronkowski and Kevin Faulk, Patriots alumni and players families. Together they distributed baskets of complete Thanksgiving meals to more than 200 families in need.

During the week of Nov. 27, the Foundation teamed with the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston, to celebrate "Health Care Volunteerism." Patriots Nate Solder and Malcolm Williams joined American Cancer Society and Covidien volunteers in treating cancer patients and their families to a special dinner and program at the Hope Lodge on Nov. 29. Earlier that morning Sergio Brown, Zoltan Mesko and Danny Aiken visited pediatric patients at UMASS Memorial Children’s Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.

With this special focus on volunteerism, the Kraft family and the Foundation will honor Myra Kraft’s lifetime commitment to philanthropy and charitable services. For more information, to pledge volunteer hours, nominate a "Patriots Difference Maker of the Week," to submit photos of volunteer work or to participate in an upcoming collection drive visit www.patriots.com/community.
