Patriots Record Season-High Ratings

Posted Nov 8, 2011

Patriots set a season high for ratings in the Boston market this year.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - FOX Network's featured game of the week between the New England Patriots (5-3) and New York Giants (6-3) lived up to its billing, setting a season high for ratings in the Boston market this year.

The broadcast recorded the highest household (HH) rating in the Boston (Manchester) designated market area (DMA) for the season - an incredible 38.5 (HH) rating with a 60.2 share. The rating out-produced the previous seasonal high of 37.10 which was established in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins (1-7) on Monday Night Football and achieved again on Week 6 versus the Dallas Cowboys (4-4). The Boston (Manchester) HH rating topped the organization's previous Week 9 best of 38.2, set during the 2007 season against the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots have now set organizational television records in six-out-of-eight eligible weeks this season. (The Week 8 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers was unable to be measured due to state-wide power outages.)

Ratings remained over 40.0 for the final hour of the broadcast, steadily increasing from 40.3 to 46.3, peaking at 7:15 p.m. The Patriots took a 20-17 lead with 1:36 remaining in the game before Eli Manning orchestrated his fifth fourth quarter comeback of the season for the New York Giants to claim a 24-20 victory. It was Tom Brady's first home loss since Nov. 12, 2006.

Additionally, the FOX broadcast of the game - announced by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman along with sideline reporter Pam Oliver - was the second highest overnight rating nationally (18.6) for any NFL game this season (according to USA Today). The highest rated FOX broadcast of the season included the Patriots as well on Sunday, Nov. 6 when the Patriots claimed a 20-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys and recorded a 19.1 national rating.

The Patriots will try to get back in the win column Sunday, Nov. 13 against AFC East rival New York Jets (5-3). NBC will broadcast the game nationally, with WHDH showing the game in the Boston market. The prime time matchup will kickoff Sunday night at 8:20 p.m.
