Patriots Release Veteran CB Leigh Bodden

The New England Patriots announced today that veteran CB Leigh Bodden has been released. In addition, the Patriots announced the re-signing of DB Josh Victorian to the practice squad and the release of DB Malcolm Williams from the practice squad.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today that veteran CB Leigh Bodden has been released. In addition, the Patriots announced the re-signing of DB Josh Victorian to the practice squad and the release of DB Malcolm Williams from the practice squad.

Bodden, 6-1, 193 pounds, originally joined the Patriots as a free agent on March 11, 2009. He played in 15 games with 14 starts in 2009 and tied for the team lead with five interceptions. He missed all of last season with a shoulder injury, but returned this year and played in five of the first six games with one start, collecting 16 total tackles.

Bodden originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Cleveland out of Duquesne. After five seasons with the Browns (2003-07), Bodden was traded to Detroit on March 1, 2008. He has played in 95 NFL games with 68 starts and has 357 total tackles, 18 interceptions, 79 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

Victorian, 5-10, 190 pounds, went to training camp with Baltimore after signing with the Ravens as a rookie free agent out of Louisiana Tech on July 28, 2011. He originally joined the Patriots practice squad on Sept. 22, 2011 before being released on Oct. 25, 2011.

Williams, 5-11, 200 pounds, was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (219th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas Christian University. He originally signed with Oklahoma but ended up at Trinity Community College before going to Texas Christian University for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Williams was released by the Patriots on Aug. 29, 2011 and signed to the practice squad on Oct. 25, 2011.
