Patriots comeback win over Miami draws 30-plus household rating for 40th straight game

Posted Oct 29, 2013

CBS’ broadcast of Patriots-Dolphins produced an average household rating of 31.4 in the Boston market.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots scored 24 unanswered points in the second half on Sunday, storming back from a 17-3 deficit to earn a 27-17 victory over the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins. The Patriots improved to 6-2 with the win and have now won their last seven contests against Miami.

The Patriots kept an impressive streak alive in the broadcast booth as well, as CBS’ broadcast of Patriots-Dolphins produced an average household rating of 31.4 in the Boston market with an average share of 63. Sunday’s rating marks the 40th consecutive time that a Patriots broadcast has topped the 30.0 mark in average household rating, a streak that dates back to a Sept. 25, 2011 contest in Buffalo against the Bills, which drew a rating of 27.4.

The record streak, which includes the team’s five playoff games during that span, excludes the team’s 2011 game at the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10 when ratings were unavailable due to the power outages caused by inclement weather. In 2012, the Patriots drew household ratings of 30 or higher in all 16 regular season games for the first time in franchise history.

The Patriots are in sole possession of first place in the AFC East with a 6-2 record and will look to build on that next Sunday when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium. The 4:25 p.m. kickoff will be broadcast regionally on CBS and locally in the Boston market on WBZ, with Jim Nantz on play-by-play and Phil Simms providing color analysis.
