Patriots release four players

Posted Mar 10, 2014

The New England Patriots have announced the following transactions on Monday, March 10, 2014.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots released DL Cory Grissom, RB Sam McGuffie, WR TJ Moe and LB Taylor Reed today.

Grissom, 23, was originally signed by New England as a rookie free agent on May 3, 2013, out of South Florida. The 6-foot-2, 316-pounder spent the 2013 season on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury during the preseason. Grissom started the final 37 games of his college career and was named second-team All-Big East as a senior.

McGuffie, 24, finished the 2013 season on the New England practice squad after being signed on Dec. 27. The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders on April 29, 2013, as a rookie free agent out of Rice. He was released by Oakland on Aug. 26 and signed by the Arizona Cardinals to the practice squad on Sept. 3, before being released on Sept. 17. McGuffie began his college career at Michigan as a running back, seeing action as a true freshman, before transferring to Rice. After two seasons as a running back at Rice, he made a successful transition from running back to slot receiver as a senior in 2012 and finished with 54 receptions for 603 yards and five touchdowns.

Moe, 22, was originally signed the New England as a rookie free agent on May 3, 2013, out of Missouri. The 6-foot, 200-pounder spent the 2013 season on injured reserve after suffering an Achilles injury during spring workouts. Moe played in 48 games over his four collegiate seasons at Missouri, totaling 188 receptions for 2,101 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Reed, 22, joined the New England practice squad on Dec. 30. The 5-foot-11, 236-pounder was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent out of Southern Methodist on May 5, 2013. He was released by Dallas on Aug. 31 before being signed to the Cowboys practice squad on Nov. 18. Reed started in 12-of-13 games he played as a senior and led the team with 97 total tackles.
