Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that the Patriots have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free agent offensive lineman Matt Stankiewitch. The former Penn State Nittany Lion stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 302 pounds, and according to Reiss, Stankiewitch has the versatility to line up at any of the interior offensive line positions.
“We ran the New England Patriot offense," Stankiewitch said recently after playing for former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien at Penn State last season. "We watched quite a bit of Patriots film. If we were installing a new play, we’d turn on the New England Patriots film [and] we’d watch how they were running the play against any team in the NFL."
"The 5-foot-11, 204 pound receiver was phased out a little bit as the offense became more about quarterback James Franklin’s running ability, but as a sophomore, when things were still passing oriented, he caught 92 passes for 1,045 yards with six touchdowns," writes Underhill.
Doug Kyed of NESN.com looks at the other undrafted rookie free agents that have been tied to the Patriots. Included in the list of players is former Cincinnati wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins.
"Thompkins has a great story coming out of Cincinnati, writes Kyed. "He was arrested seven times as a youth in his home town of Miami, and then decided to seriously pursue his football career at a California junior college once he saw his younger brother succeed at the sport. He’s stayed out of trouble since and shined with the Bearcats when he got a shot at the FBS level."
Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that the Patriots have released wide receiver
"It's the second time that the team has parted ways with the Northwestern product, as he was released at the conclusion of training camp last August," writes Reiss.
