Rob Gronkowski Conference Call with the Carolina media

Posted Nov 14, 2013

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski addresses the Carolina media during his conference call on Thursday, Novermber 14, 2013.

RE: The Panthers defense
“They’ve got a great defense. They’re unbelievable. They’re 5-0 in the last five games. They’re on a hot streak right now and they’re playing very well. The front seven, they play great together. They’ve got a great combo at the D-ends. Their linebackers are unbelievable. They’re just overall a great defense. Quick, fast and physical.”

RE: On what he saw on film of how the Panthers adjusted to Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez
“I didn’t sit there and watch the whole game; I definitely saw some bits of it. They’re just a great adjustment team. They know how to adjust on the fly. They know how to adjust coverages, and they’re just overall a great defense. Any time being out on the field, you’ve got to expect any kind of coverage and work off what they have out there.”

RE: Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and his success in big games
“He’s Tom Brady. He works so hard and he’s such a competitor, and when the lights are shining, that’s when the guys that work hard and put the extra work in always shine. That’s Tom. He’s an unbelievable player, he has a lot of enthusiasm and he’s always ready to play the game.”

RE: On the Patriots’ ‘muddle huddle,’ and battling against an away crowd
“Any away game you’ve got to be ready for crowd noise, and definitely coming into this Monday night game into the Carolina Panthers’ stadium, we know that’s going to be loud, that’s going to be hectic. It’s going to be crazy. It’s just like any road game; you’ve got to have great communication throughout the team, throughout the offense. That starts in practice. Communicating in practice, players helping out other players on the offense. A lot of nonverbal communication that goes on when you’re on the road, and we’ve got to be sound and we’ve got to be good with that.”

RE: On the Panthers’ secondary
“They’ve got a great secondary too; they’ve got great players definitely in the secondary. It’s just that the D-ends, they get too the quarterback real quick, so they’re standing out. But overall, they’ve got great players at all positions; safeties, corners. That’s what makes them a great defense; they’ve got no weaknesses anywhere.”

RE: Being sidelined early in the season
“That’s all in the past now. Obviously it was frustrating and all that, but it’s all in the past and I’m just looking forward to the Carolina Panthers now when I’m out on the field.”

RE: The difference he makes in the passing attack
“I’m just going out there, focusing on my job, what I’ve got to do to make the offense a better offense, and make sure I do my own job and try to make plays when my number is called. So far, if the offense is opening up that’s great. Everyone on the offense is just trying to do their job so we can work together as a team, and get the chemistry down and work together as an offense.”

RE: On Panthers’ linebacker Luke Kuechly
“He’s a great player, unbelievable. Fast, he’s got speed and he’s a great coverage player too along with a run stopper. You’ve got to be ready for him; you’ve got to be ready for anyone, to tell you the truth. You’ve got to be ready for any coverage, because you never know how they’re preparing. So you’ve got to be prepared as a player on offense for anything on defense, anyone that’s going to cover you.”

RE: On what stands out about the Panthers front seven
“Their speed. Speed and quickness to the ball, and how they all get to the ball and surround the ball. So you’ve got to be ready, and you’ve got to just keep working hard and hustling.”

RE: On the atmosphere he expects in Charlotte Monday night
“Well it’s Monday Night Football. The Panthers are 5-0 the last five games. We’re 7-2 and coming off a bye. I’m expecting an electric atmosphere and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

RE: On the rap song he’s involved in
“Yeah, that’s my brother’s friend that he played baseball with who did that. He did it all himself, it was pretty cool. I give Future some props, I mean it was legit.”
