Tom Brady Postgame Press Conference Transcript

Posted Dec 24, 2011

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, December 24, 2011.

Q: Why the quick switch from the first half to the second? What happened in the first half and how did you fix it in the second?

TB: I thought we executed better in the second half. We just had a hard time getting going. We obviously didn't play very well in the first half. I think we made a pretty big commitment at halftime to each other to go out and everyone do their job and quit worrying about everybody else and go out and play better and we did that.

Q: How tough were the adjustments with the offensive line? It's unbelievable how many guys have gone down.

TB: Yeah. I think that was - to lose Matt [Light] an hour and a half before the game and then to lose Logan [Mankins] the first or second series of the game, a lot of guys really stepped in and played hard, played for 60 minutes. I think that's what it took today.

Q: That's a group that's had some shuffling over the course of the season. What does that say about the group that they've been able to keep you upright most of the year?

TB: They're tough. They're very well coached. They have a lot pride. I think they work extremely hard. Anytime you have those qualities as players and as a group you learn to fight through adversity. They've done that all year. Hopefully we get some guys back next week. You don't want to certainly make a habit of this, but we did it and we overcame it against a team that was playing very well. They won five of their last seven, you can see why obviously. We showed some resiliency, some mental toughness again and we pulled out a tough game.

Q: How energizing was the fumble recovery with the way the game was going at that point?

TB: Huge, huge. We didn't turn it over today; I thought that was important. We got turnovers. Really, the last seven games it's been a huge key for us. It's hard to win games when you turn it over. We were the benefactor of some good plays by our defense that I thought the offense capitalized [on] when we got those plays, when we got short fields and we did a good job getting the ball in the end zone.

Q: In the scheme of things, even though Stephen Gostkowski missed the field goal at the end of the half, how important was it to be able to move the ball going into halftime?

TB: We executed better there and I thought we felt like if we executed better, we could get the ball in the end zone. We have a lot of playmakers on offense. I think it just took us a little bit to get settled into the game. Once we did that, we made some plays. That was a good job by the whole group.

Q: Do you think the no huddle helped kick start the offense today?

TB: It's been a good weapon for us. I think we used it down there. We use it, it seems, like every game. I don't think we go into every game thinking, 'This is what we're going to do.' If it works, we stick with it. We tried it early - we tried it in the first half [and] it didn't work very well, but based on our personnel we thought maybe we should just stick with it and we certainly executed a lot better.
