Tom Brady Postgame Press Conference Transcript

Posted Nov 24, 2013

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady addresses the media during his postgame press conference on Monday, November 25, 2013.

Q: How did you guys flip the switch in the second half, down 24-0?

TB: Well, I talk about it all the time so I’m sure you’re bored of hearing it, but our execution was a lot better. We didn’t give ourselves a chance in the first half with the turnovers. They got a big lead and we fond ways to put one play after the next one and the next one and the next one and ended up scoring some points. We got the lead and we didn't do too much after that until the defense really bailed us out. It was a good team win. That’s a real good football team and I’m glad we got the win.

Q: How about Julian Edelman?

TB: He's been so dependable and consistent all year for our team. He’s been the one veteran play on the offense who’s been in there and been around. He did a great hob. He always does a great job. He’s tough, smart and disciplined. It’s fun to see him do well because he deserves it.

Q: What does it say about this team’s mental toughness to be able to fight back from that?

TB: That's what it’s all about. You’ve got to put a lot of the stuff aside. You’ve got to forget about what happened in the first half because it was a terrible half of football. I don't even know what you coach at that point, you know? So we came in and we talked about some of the things they were doing what we needed to do. We needed to put together some good plays, which would make a good drive and if that happened to be a few good drives, we’d be back in the game, which ended up happening. We found a way to get back in it then took the lead and had some chances where we could have gotten a bigger lead, so we’ll learn from those things and try to get better.

Q: After that touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski you seemed pretty excited. Want to take a shot at a transcript of that conversation?

TB: I get pretty excited. He’s been close a few times and he’s gotten in a few times, so I was pretty pumped up. I’m always pretty pumped up after we score. It’s nice to celebrate. Usually I’m pretty grumpy to be around, so that’s about the only time I get really excited: after we score touchdowns.

Q: Can you talk about Kenbrell Thompkins?

TB: Yeah, he made some big plays for us. He made some big plays last week. He gets his opportunity and takes advantage of it. That’s the great part about him: he’ a real fighter. He’s a tough kid and he wants to do what’s best for the team. He’s got a great attitude and I love being his attitude. Hopefully he keeps making more of them.

Q: Are you guys starting to get an identity? At his point in the season there seem to be other options formulating for you and you can pick and choose where you want to go with the ball.

TB: Yeah it’s a little bit better in a night like tonight where the weather conditions are a factor, you‘ve got to figure a way to do different things, and they try to stop those things and you have to figure out something else to do. We’ve been a little bit more consistent on offense and we need to keep being that way and keep really leading the charge. It was a good win. Last one and I’m going to let you guys get home.

Q: It looked to me like you had a little better protection and more time to throw the ball in the second half. How much did that help you get things going?

TB: Yeah that definitely helped. I thought the offensive line played really hard. That’s a good pass rushing group. Von Miller is one of the best in the league and Shaun Phillips is a really great player. They had some inside guys that put some pressure on us early and we found a way to really get the tempo of the game and then settle into our protections, what was working. We did a better job handling that in the second half.
