Wes Welker Media Availability Transcript

Posted Aug 15, 2012

New England Patriots WR Wes Welker addresses the media following Training Camp practice at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

Q: Tom Brady seemed pretty intense today again, especially in red area situations. What does this team need to work on to make him happier?

WW: I think everything. I think it’s just bringing it every single day and obviously he does a great job of doing that. Everybody needs a pick-me-up every once in a while and he does a great job of trying to get guys going and making sure we’re all on the same page. But there are tons of things being worked on. Even the things we’re good at, we can get better at. Everything needs work.

Q: How big is the task of playing three games in 10 days with two of them on the road?

WW: I mean, it’s always a big task. At the same time, it is preseason and obviously we wouldn’t be doing that during the regular season or anything like that. But at the same time, we’ve got to get good work and make sure that we’re on top of it and doing it there and executing the way we need to and treat it like any other day.

Q: Has that schedule increased your sense of urgency during camp?

WW: I think there’s always urgency. There’s always a need to get out there and get better and I think that urgency always needs to be there no matter what the scenario is.

Q: Do you feel like the defense is starting to develop a little bit of a swagger or confidence that appears new?

WW: Obviously they're doing a good job and it’s been a very competitive camp on both sides of the ball and that’s what we need. That's how we get better – being competitive with each other and really going out there and battling with each other and trying to get better daily. And we’ll see. We’ll see on all fronts how the offense holds up, how the defense holds up, how the team holds up as a whole. All of that remains to be seen.

Q: Tom Brady just turned 35. Does he seem 35 or does he seem the same as ever?

WW: He seems the same as ever, same as ever. You don’t really put an age on him; he's just got the fountain of youth or something.

Q: A lot of players who go through ACL surgery say they notice an even bigger change in their second year back. Have you seen that to be the case?

WW: I mean, yeah, I went from 86 catches to 122, so I’d say it was quite a difference in being able to have that year under your belt and really try and come back from it and those things. I definitely don’t wish that injury on my worst enemy. That was definitely a tough one.
