Report: Gronkowski had third surgery

Posted Feb 26, 2013

According to ESPN, Patriots Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent another procedure on his surgically repaired left forearm last week.

According to ESPN, Patriots Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent another procedure on his surgically repaired left forearm last week. The report indicates this surgery - the tight end's third since originally breaking the forearm last Nov. 18 against the Colts - was to deal with an infection in the arm that came after a second surgery following a re-break of the arm in the playoffs against Houston on Jan. 13.

"The infection was caught early enough that Gronkowski is not expected to miss any extended time, according to those familiar with the surgery," ESPN reports.

Gronkowski - who was out of a cast and optimistic in a recent interview with Patriots Today on Patriots.com -- is still expected to be ready for training camp.

This third surgery could also be the reason that Gronkowski pulled out of a previous commitment to work the red carpet at the Oscars as a correspondent for the Rich Eisen Podcast on NFL.com.
