Report: Patriots add WR Hawkins

Posted May 9, 2013

New England is said to bring another pass catcher on board.

Former Tennessee Titans receiver Lavelle Hawkins has inked a two-year deal with New England, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean newspaper.

Hawkins, who played collegiately at Cal, entered the NFL with Tennessee in 2008. In his five seasons there, he caught 71 passes for an average of 11 yards per grab, with just one touchdown in that span. Last season, he appeared in just seven games for the Titans, who released him last week.

Though the contract is reportedly for two years, it’s hard to imagine, based on his past production, that Hawkins will be anything more than competition for a depth role in the Patriots offense. Hawkins joins a New England receiving corps that is undergoing, as head coach Bill Belichick recently described it, a “re-do,” with numerous new faces coming to Foxborough this offseason.
