FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots re-signed exclusive rights free agent linebacker Eric Alexander and restricted free agent cornerback Randall Gay today. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Alexander, 25, saw action in 14 regular season games and all three postseason contests in 2006. The 6-foot-2-inch, 240-pound linebacker was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on April 29, 2004. Alexander, who appeared in four games prior to the 2006 season, spent the majority of the 2004 and 2005 campaigns on the Patriots practice squad. The Louisiana State product made his first NFL start against the Indianapolis Colts in the 2006 AFC Championship Game and led the team with 10 solo tackles.

Gay, 24, was originally signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2004. The 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound cornerback played in three games in 2006 before being placed on injured reserve on Sept. 27, 2006. He has played in 23 career games with 11 starts and has recorded 50 tackles (45 solo), two interceptions for 23 yards, seven passes defensed, two fumble recoveries (including one returned 41 yards for a touchdown) and four special teams tackles. Additionally, Gay started all three of New England’s 2004 playoff games at left cornerback as a rookie and was the Patriots’ leading tackler in Super Bowl XXXIX, notching 11 solo tackles.
