JETS: Darrelle Revis Conference Call

 <itunes:author>New England Patriots</itunes:author>

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis addresses the New England media during his conference call on Wednesday, November 18, 2009.
Q: What did you, looking back, learn from that first time you faced Randy Moss in Week Two? What did you take out of that game?
DR: Looking at that film this week, straight up, I think - preparation-wise - I think that I had a good game plan, covering him the best way, just switching up certain things off coverage: a little bit of press, just making sure I'm giving him different looks. Just watching the past couple games they've played, they're doing different things with him now in their offense, so I'll probably have to switch my game up when I watch more film this week on him.
Q: What kinds of things are the Patriots doing now?
DR: Just putting him in more places to get him the ball. He's been in the slot a little bit more, so defensive backs can't get their hands on them. He can get a free release, and sprint down the field and [make] acrobatic catches. It's just something that the game plan this week and what we're doing, it's for me to change up my game plan a little bit on him.
Q: One of the things I remember after that game was Randy Moss was asked how you held him down and he only had four catches. I think he said, 'anyone can have help over the top and it could look good,' and I was curious to see what was your reaction when you heard that?
DR: My reaction was, basically, everyone saw the game, everybody knows I was in man coverage, that was the case. He's supposed to say that because [that day] wasn't his day, he got shut out and was frustrated about it, which is cool. I don't have anything against him. I still think he's one of the best receivers in the league. When we go up against each other, it's great competition. So, if he says that, he does, that's on him. But we play them twice a year and I have to see him just as much as he has to see me.
Q: So to kind of set the record straight, that game, were you in m...

JETS: Rex Ryan Conference Call

 <itunes:author>New England Patriots</itunes:author>

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan addresses the New England media during his conference call on Wednesday, November 18, 2009.
Q: Might you have a Kleenex box nearby?
RR: That's what I did. I did [that in] our press conference, I brought it out and said, 'I got a new sponsor'. But you know, it's funny...things get out and stuff like that but, again, I'm myself. And if I'm not a typical coach or whatever, so be it. I know one thing. I'm myself and there's no bigger competitor than I am.
Q: Was that a spur of the moment thing when the tears started to roll? Or was that something you were trying to do to motivate your team?
RR: No, that's just straight from my heart and all that kind of stuff. Anybody that's ever been around me knows that's the way I am. You can ask people in Baltimore and the team. It's just that it's never got out before. I'm like that. I'm an emotional guy. I'm a passionate person, but my main message is that I came here to be a champion and I believe in myself and I believe in this football team. I just wanted to make sure that they knew that's who I am. It's funny, I was telling our reporters today that there's very few quotes that I remember - which I know surprises nobody. But Sugar Ray Robinson had a great quote. He said, 'To be a champ, you have to believe in yourself when nobody else will.' Well, I think that fits us. Nobody else does [believes in us] right now, but we believe in each other. We know we're going against a true champion team, a team that's won three Super Bowls. They said we're walking into a hornet's nest and all that, but we beat this team Week 2. I thought we had the better team in Week 2. Obviously over the last month and a half, they've played much better than we have. But we're going to find out who has the better team on Sunday. We're coming here to win.
Q: What has stood out for you about Tom Brady over the last few weeks about how his season has evolved?
RR: Well, I told you he's the best quarterback in the league...

Dean Pees Conference Call - 11/17/2009

 <itunes:author>New England Patriots</itunes:author>

Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees addresses the media during his conference call on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.
Q: Jonathan Wilhite was on Reggie Wayne quite a bit. It seemed like he was right there on a lot of those plays. How do you look at a guy like that who - Wayne obviously is a high level receiver - and what kind of job do you think Wilhite did on him?
DP: Well, I think he...we did match up Wilhite quite a bit on him, or he ended up on him quite a bit because he was over there on that side. And there were times he played some very good coverage on him. On the very first one down the sideline it was a great catch by Wayne. The ball was put in the only spot it could be put in and Jonathan had good coverage on him. The bottom line still is that we can't let him catch the ball. So he did some good things and some not so good things, just like everybody kind of in coverage throughout the day. We had some very nice plays, some good tight coverage, some good jams on the receivers. Then we had some times where we just weren't consistent and didn't do it all the time and we just need to do better. So he had some good plays; he had some not so good plays.
Q: I know Miami's rookie might have run into this a little bit with Randy Moss, but are there plays where you look at it and say, ‘God, that's just the quarterback and the receiver who have played together for nine years and are this good and they're just making a play and it's going to be really tough to defend that'?
DP: There're always those. It doesn't really even have to be a quarterback and a receiver who have been together nine years. A guy can make just a great throw and a guy can make just a great maybe one-handed catch. I've certainly seen Randy make some catches that I just don't know how you defend him. He just does it. That's part of being a defensive back and playing in the NFL. They're going to make some plays. You've got to make more than they make and not give up the big ones and play...

Nick Caserio Conference Call - 11/17/2009

 <itunes:author>New England Patriots</itunes:author>

Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio addresses the media during his conference call on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.
Q: When you originally signed Isaiah Stanback, was it as a quarterback or did you sign him thinking he could play multiple positions?
NC: Yeah, we evaluated Isaiah coming out of college. We thought that he could play quarterback and he was subsequently switched to receiver in Dallas. Then when we signed him, we brought him in to work at quarterback, but I think Isaiah is kind of a unique player from the standpoint that he has a pretty unique skill set. And he has performed multiple roles since he's been here in practice, whether it's quarterback or receiver. As the weeks progressed, he did some different things at receiver and he improved. So you know, he's a situation where he's a unique player, he's athletic, he's big, he's strong, he's fast, he has good hands. And week to week, we go through the process and based on his performance and based on what he's done in practice, he went to the game last week and actually played some snaps for us at receiver. I think it ended up being 40-plus snaps or whatever it might be. So, we'll go through each week and see how it goes and then make a decision about what we feel his best spot is going to be for us now and then moving forward.
Q: Does he bring value in the return game? I know he did some of that in Dallas...
NC: Yeah, it's something that I don't think we've really looked into that much as of yet because we're working some other guys at that spot right now, whether it's [Terrence] Wheatley, whether it's [Matthew] Slater, whether it's [Darius] Butler. But with his skill set, in terms of playing him in the kicking game because of his size, because of his speed, because of his playing strength, I think it's something that week to week- we'll go through practice and if there's an opportunity that arises where he needs to return, I'm sure that's something that [special teams coach] Scotty O'Br...
