Steve Belichick enters his second season as safeties coach with the New England Patriots after four years as a coaching assistant.
Under his guidance in 2016, the Patriots safeties were part of a defense that finished in the top-10 in the NFL in total defense (8th) and allowed a league-low 15.6 points per game. Devin McCourty was also selected to his third career Pro Bowl under Belichick's instruction.
After playing four years of lacrosse at Rutgers, Belichick walked on to the football team as a long snapper to help in preparations for a career in coaching. He was a three-year starter at linebacker, tight end and fullback as well as a long snapper at The Rivers School in Weston, Mass., before heading to Rutgers.
