Jon Morris

Jon Morris played for the Patriots for 11 seasons, appearing in 130 games from 1964-74...In his first six seasons in the league, he was named an AFL All-Star. In 1970, after the AFL merged with the NFL, he joined the Raiders' Pro Football Hall of Fame Center Jim Otto as the AFC representatives at the Pro Bowl. He was the only Patriot to be selected that year and the first Patriot to ever earn the honor of attending the NFL Pro Bowl...His seven league All-Star selections ranks second in Patriots history behind Pro Football Hall of Famer John Hannah (9)...Morris anchored an offensive line that opened holes for Jim Nance to amass a team-record 45 rushing touchdowns from 1965-71...He was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 1964 American Football League Draft out of Holy Cross...Sensational three sport athlete at Gonzaga High School and Daily News "Athlete of the Year" in 1960 ... father (John) was Washington Bureau correspondent for New York Times ... Center and linebacker at Holy Cross for three seasons ... Varsity Club Athlete of the Year and Lineman of the Year in 1963 ... Other senior year honors included team captain, AP All-East, Williamson all-America, College all-star game vs. Bears, Senior Bowl ... Green Bay Packers No. 2 draft choice in 1964 but passed up late Vince Lombardi's offer to sign with the Patriots who had drafted him in the No. 3 spot ... 1776 Club Rookie of the Year in 1964, Unsung Hero in 1965 and '72 ....Washington Touchdown Club toasted him as area's top athlete in 1967 ... Made 1971 trip to Vietnam with other NFL players ... Inducted into Holy Cross Hall of Fame in 1973.
