For the season, returned 61 kickoffs for a 23.2-yard average, and scored on a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown ... Fielded 43 punts for a 10.8-yard average, all with the Dolphins ... His punt return average (10.8) ranked second in the AFC, trailing only Cleveland's Dennis Northcutt (12.0) ... - Fielded two punts for a 43.5-yard average, including a season-long return of 71 yards, on Monday Night Football against New England (12/20). That return, which tied for the seventh-longest punt return in team history and is the longest not to have gone for a touchdown, came in the first quarter and put the Dolphins at the Patriots' 2-yard line, leading to a Sammy Morris touchdown run on the next play from scrimmage.
- Returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown against Baltimore (1/2), becoming the first Dolphin to achieve the feat since October 1, 1989 when Marc Logan returned one 97 yards for a score at Houston. Overall on the day, fielded seven kickoffs for a 30.0-yard average, as the seven returns tied a club single-game record which had been achieved seven times previously.

- Wes has established the "83 Foundation" to provide underprivileged children in his hometown of Oklahoma City the opportunity to play football.
- Texas Tech was the only Division I school to offer Wes a scholarship, and then only after another player had backed out of his commitment, but Wes went on to become one of the best athletes in Texas Tech history, breaking receiving and returning records and earning the nickname "The Natural."
- In 2004, Wes became the first player in NFL history to return a punt, return a kick, kick a field goal, kick an extra point and kickoff in the same game. He accomplished the feat against the Patriots.
