A.J. Edds was claimed off waivers and awarded to the Patriots from the Miami Dolphins on September 7, 2011 … Originally drafted by Miami in the fourth round (119^th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft … Released by Miami (9/5/11).

Suffered a knee injury in training camp and spent his rookie season on injured reserve.

COLLEGE

Four-year letterman and three-year starter at Iowa.
Played in 47 games with 39 starts, including his final 38 at strong-side linebacker.
Posted career totals of 226 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 13 stops for a loss.
Also had seven interceptions, a safety, 12 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three recovered fumbles.
Helped Iowa rank tenth in the nation in total defense, eighth in scoring defense fifth in the conference in rush defense as a senior.
Began his college career as a tight end before moving to defense in the fall of his freshman season.
