A.J. Green Conference Call Transcript: 'I looked up to Randy Moss'

Bengals WR A.J. Green addresses the New England media during a conference call at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

**

Q: Where do you think the offense has taken that next step? **

AG: Being able to run the ball, and we have no turnovers, so that's the biggest thing for us.

Q: How big was the opening day play against the Ravens psychologically for the team – your game-winning touchdown catch?

AG: That was very big. I haven't won there since I came into the league, and I think it was just big for us because it was a division game, so the biggest thing with a division game is we came out with the win.

Q: How impressed have you been with Jeremy Hill coming in and giving you guys the power aspect of the running game?

AG: It was great. He's a big back, but he's got some sweet feet, and he can run over you or he can juke you, so he's having a great year.

Q: What have you thought of Darrelle Revis from what you've seen on film so far?

AG: He's Darrelle Revis. He's been doing this for a long time at a high level. [We] just have to go out there and work. It's going to be very competitive out there with him. I watch him a lot, so it's going to be tough.

Q: What is your mentality when you hear that the Patriots defense is taking a lot of pride in taking away the deep ball?

AG: We've just got to go out there and do our offense. Out there we're not going to take it – we're not going to force anything down the field. We're just going to do what they give us. The thing is to keep working.

Q: How much pride do you take in Bill Belichick saying that one of the things that makes you an elite receiver is how good you are in all three areas of the field, and how hard do you work at being that kind of receiver?

AG: I take a lot of pride in that. I just don't want to be a one-trick pony. I want to go out there and work when they put me inside, outside, it really doesn't matter. I'm going to run every route. Just little things like that.

Q: What are some of the things you've worked on since entering the league to round out your game?

AG: The biggest thing for me is being able to play inside more, being able to run the little guy routes, and getting in and out of my breaks a little quicker.

Q: How hard has Andy Dalton worked in the offseason and in this season with you to become the leader of that offense?

AG: We never had a question about his leadership, the outside world. We know what goes on. We know the work that he put in, and we have faith in him that he's a great leader. He hasn't done anything different this year. He's been a leader since day one.

Q: Is there a receiver you watched growing up that you looked up to?

AG: Yeah… Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Michael Irvin, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Brandon Marshall, Steve Smith. A lot of those guys that have been doing it for a long time at a high level.

Q: When you look at the Patriots defense what do you see out there?

AG: I see a veteran group. They've played a lot of football. It's a Bill Belichick team, and they're always tough.

Q: How would you characterize the expectations of this Bengals team to reach the next level, and is Sunday night a measuring stick game?

AG: I don't think Sunday [is a measuring stick]. We're just going to go out there and play. We're not worried about the playoffs right now. All we can do is control what's ahead of us and that's the Patriots, and after that we'll look to the next game, and that's how we take it – day by day, game by game.

Q: What are your thoughts on Belichick calling you one of the best receivers in the league?

AG: It's a great thing, but I've got a long way to go and continue working, get better, but it's a good thing.

Q: How much fun is it watching Giovani Bernard as a teammate?

AG: It's very fun. That guy is so dynamic. He can catch the ball in the back field. He can juke you. He can run over you, so he has it all, all the tools to be a great running back.
