<br> Foxborough, Mass. – Dartmouth High School’s Rick White has been named this year’s New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year following Dartmouth’s MIAA Division 3 state championship-winning season. Dartmouth outlasted Melrose, 14-7, in the championship game at Gillette Stadium on Saturday. Dec. 6. It is the first state championship for the Dartmouth football program in 30 years, when Coach White suited up at defensive back for the squad. Dartmouth built a 14-0 lead in the rain on the back of a strong running game and their defense held off Melrose, capping off the game with an interception to seal the victory in the waning seconds. The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation will donate $2,000 to Dartmouth High School’s football program in White’s name in recognition of his Coach of the Year selection.
Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett, the team’s executive director of community affairs, visited Coach White and the football team at Dartmouth High School on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The meeting and check presentation will be featured on the team’s weekly television show, “Patriots All Access,” which airs on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. on WBZ-TV in Boston and will be available immediately after on Patriots.com.
This is the 19th year in which the Patriots join the National Football League in conducting the High School Coach of the Week program, which recognizes outstanding high school coaches and promotes youth football throughout New England. Tippett oversees the program as part of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation’s commitment to youth football initiatives.
“What a great victory for the Dartmouth football team,” Tippett said. “This team found a way to win games all year, and it was so enjoyable to watch them use all three phases to pull off the victory in the state championship game on Saturday. Coach Rick White’s strong leadership has created a true team-first mentality. Congratulations to the team and coaches on bringing a championship back to Dartmouth. I’m honored to present Coach White with this year’s 2014 New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year Award.”
