There was a new student at Edward A. Ricci Middle School on Monday and he definitely stood out from the crowd.
Devin McCourty spent much of his day off at the North Providence, R.I., school as he shot promotional photos and videos for the Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP 60) program.
The day got started with a photo session in the cafeteria. Then Devin and FUTP 60's six New England student ambassadors moved down the hall to a classroom, where 20 "guest stars" - kids from Ricci Middle School - eagerly waited. Assistant Principal Thomas Mellen said that it was no easy task to select the students for the special opportunity but described those who participated as school leaders.
Later, the whole group headed outside and got active, putting FUTP 60's principles into practice. Devin even had a chance to channel Bill Belichick as he coached the children in flag football drills.
When the shoot ended, Devin took time to sign autographs and pose for photos - and yes, even a few selfies. All along, the excitement of the student body was evident; Devin and his young co-stars had a huge audience, with children gathered by the windows of their classrooms trying to catch a glimpse of the action.
Both Devin and his twin brother Jason are national ambassadors for FUTP 60, which is a partnership between the NFL and the National Dairy Council. It is administered locally by the New England Dairy and Food Council, which selected Ricci Middle School for Monday's shoot.
