FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – There will be a Patriots presence in Maine on Monday when Malcolm Butler and the team's Super Bowl XLIX Lombardi Trophy arrive in Portland that evening. Fans attending the Portland Sea Dogs game against the Binghamton Mets on Monday, April 27, will have an opportunity to show their Patriots pride and celebrate the team's latest Super Bowl championship.

The trophy will join Patriots cornerback and Super Bowl XLIX champion Malcolm Butler on the field as he throws out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 6 p.m. game at Hadlock Field.  Then, during the game, fans will have an opportunity to take a photo with the trophy. Any fan who has preordered a Maine Patriots license plate in advance of Monday's game or who chooses to register for a license plate onsite will have an opportunity to skip to the front of the line for photos. Butler will also be available from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for free autographs in another area of the stadium.

Maine Patriots license plates cost an additional $35, with $25 going to the state for start-up costs of producing the plate and $10 going to the Patriots Charitable Foundation, monies that are earmarked for Maine nonprofits. The license plate's design – still in the preorder stage – has been updated to reflect the team's fourth Super Bowl championship. When produced, Maine will be the only license plate in New England representing all four Super Bowl championships.

The Patriots began taking preorders in Maine for a Patriots license plate in July 2011 as part of the Patriots Charitable Foundation's charitable license plate program. Maine legislature requires 2,000 preorders to successfully bring the license plate into law. Several hundred preorders are still required to produce the plate, which would be just the second non-profit plate signed into law in Maine since the program began in 2007, joining the Maine Animal Welfare Program.

Once the plate is approved and in production, each of the 2,000 pre-sale registrants will receive a BMV voucher, which they can take to their municipal office or BMV branch to redeem for their plate. If the law is not successfully passed, refunds will be issued to each individual that placed a preorder. Vouchers will be mailed to the address provided when the order is placed. Vouchers are transferable. Vehicles must be less than 10,000 pounds to be eligible.

The Maine license plate program marks the third Patriots license plate offered in the New England region, with existing programs in the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
