Friday's Notes

Patriots receiver Troy Brown is one of the NFL stars featured in the Quarterback Challenge to be aired on CBS on the weekend of July 17th.

Brown participates in upcoming Quarterback Challenge

Patriots co-captain Troy Brown is one of a handful of wide receivers who participated in the 15th annual 989 Sports NFL Quarterback Challenge taped earlier this year in Santa Monica, Calif. The event that challenges the accuracy, speed and mobility, distance, and "No Huddle" capabilities of NFL quarterbacks will air in two parts on CBS on Saturday, July 17 from 5-6 p.m. and on Saturday, July 18, from 2-3 p.m.

This year's list of competing quarterbacks included Carolina's Jake Delhomme, Cincinnati's Carson Palmer, Washington's Mark Brunell, St. Louis' Marc Bulger, Kansas City's Trent Green, Detroit's Joey Harrington, Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck, Jacksonville's Byron Leftwich and Arizona's Josh McCown.

Besides Brown, other wide receivers featured in the event included St. Louis' Torry Holt, Tampa Bay's Keenan McCardell and Arizona's Anquan Boldin. Former NFL quarterbacks Randall Cunningham, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon and Boomer Esiason were also on hand for the taping that will include the broadcast efforts of Gus Johnson, Bonnie Bernstein and Esiason.

Reality check

While fans and media types may be throwing the word dynasty around New England these days, Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick is doing his best to make sure the recent success of the team doesn't go to his players' heads.

"The last time I heard that word (dynasty) was two weeks after the Super Bowl and I haven't heard it again," running back Kevin Faulk told the Lafayette (La.) Daily Advertiser. "You don't hear it a lot in the locker room. We know we still have a lot to work on to get to that point. As a matter of fact, we recently met to watch film and coach put up all our bad plays from last year. It's to remind us who we are, we are no better than the next team if we don't go out there and try to get it right on every play."

Notes

According to a report in Friday's Washington Post the Redskins and linebacker LaVar Arrington will go to arbitration next month to settle a dispute over a $6.5 million roster bonus that the player believes was erroneously omitted from the eight-year, $68 million extension the sides signed last December. … The Star-Ledger reported on Friday that the New York Giants are considering building a new stadium rather than renovating Giants Stadium. The team reportedly has hired Hammes Construction, the developer that renovated Lambeau Field in Green Bay and built Ford Field in Detroit, to evaluate a plan to put a new stadium on the current Meadowlands' site. … Tom Brady was on the red carpet in Los Angeles this week for the premiere of girlfriend Bridget Moynahan's summer movie "I, Robot." … The Colts acquired defensive end Jamal Reynolds from the Packers for a future undisclosed draft pick. Green Bay originally drafted Reynolds with the 10th overall pick in the 2001 draft, but the 6-3, 260-pound Florida State alum has played in just 18 games and recorded just three sacks in three seasons. … While the Patriots have signed just two draft picks to date, Marquise Hill and Dexter Reid, fourth-round pick Cedric Cobbs isn't worried about his contract situation and expects to be ready to go when training camp opens later this month. "I expect to be in camp on time, of course," Cobbs said recently following a workout at Gillette Stadium. "I really don't know when my agent plans on getting me signed. I am just trying to get myself right as far as conditioning. I have a good agent and I believe in him and I am going to let him take care of his job while I take care of mine."
