From the Hart: Pre-cuts practice makes sense

As more and more Patriots cuts continue to be reported, some fans and even media members seem surprised that a handful of guys actually practiced before getting cut.

The reason for this, in my opinion, could be simple. Guys like Erik Kettani, Jeff Tarpinian and others have practice squad eligibility. The Patriots probably have designs on putting them on their practice squad this weekend, assuming they clear waivers. Although, as we learned last year, you can't always assume a player will clear waivers. But if you hope/expect a player will be on the practice field for your next workout, Sunday, why would you want them to miss today's final workout before cuts? The answer is you wouldn't. If you want them around on Sunday, then you want them to practice on Friday. At least that's how I see it. And it makes sense
