From the Hart: Welker wants to be back in NE

Wes Welker says that he wants to be back in New England next year.

INDIANAPOLIS — Wes Welker will be playing the final game of his current contract with the Patriots on Sunday. As such, the 100-catch machine's future after the Super Bowl is in doubt.

When asked about his contract situation – and lack of a deal moving forward – Welker stumbled a bit with his answer before saying he has every intention of being with the Patriots in 2012.

"I plan on being back," Welker said simply. "I'm not really too worried about that right now. I'm fully concentrated on this game and what we have to do. But I plan on being back."

He was then asked if he was surprised given his incredible production that he didn't already have a new deal in place. In his answer he did his best to ensure that his contract doesn't become a story of Super Bowl week.

"This is all stuff that we can address at another point," Welker said. "It can be a story after the season is over. But right now we're just concentrating on this game and what we have to do to win this game. You win this game and all that other stuff takes care of itself."
