Game day recipe: Baby back ribs

Thanks to Lidia Maria Porges of Bellingham, Mass., for sending us her favorite baby back ribs recipe, which required a few tweaks before she got it just right.

"In keeping with the New England Patriots championship mentality, my ribs had to be no less than perfect," she wrote. "And now they are!"

Makes 4 servings

2 full racks baby back ribs

For the dry rub
1 Tbsp cumin
1 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp dark brown sugar
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp white pepper
1 tsp chili powder

For the barbecue sauce
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup apple cider
3 Tbsp dark brown sugar
3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
1 Tbsp dry mustard
2 tsp orange juice
1/4 tsp black pepper

Cut ribs in half, if necessary, and place in a large pot. Cover with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour until fork tender.

While ribs are simmering, combine the dry rub ingredients and mix well.

Then, combine the barbecue sauce ingredients in a medium sauce pan, bring to boil and simmer for 30 minutes.

Remove ribs from water and pat dry.

Preheat the broiler. Rub the dry ingredients over the ribs and place the ribs meat side down on a broiler pan. Broil for 4 minutes, then brush the ribs with half of the sauce. Broil for another 3 minutes until the edges start to char. Turn the ribs over, brush with remaining sauce and broil an additional 6 to 7 minutes.
