FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – For the third consecutive game, running back Rex Burkhead will be a spectator due to an injured foot. Early Sunday afternoon as they departed for T.F. Green Airport, the Patriots downgraded Burkhead’s original questionable status for Monday night’s game in New York.
The veteran ball carrier has been able to practice, albeit on a limited basis, but hasn’t been well enough to see the game field since New England’s Week 4 win at Buffalo, when he apparently sustained the injury. It seems the team feels he still isn’t fit enough to suit up against the Jets tomorrow night.
As a result, expect more work perhaps for veteran Brandon Bolden, who has seen an increase in his offensive responsibilities in recent weeks with Burkhead sidelined. Rookie Damien Harris is also a consideration, although he’s mostly been a healthy scratch (not listed on the injury report) on game days this season.
