Guacamole is a great addition to any party or tailgate. Not only is it delicious served simply with some tortilla chips, but it also goes well with game-day staples like burgers, chicken and tacos.
Rather than heading out to the store, whip up some homemade guacamole with this classic recipe from Chef Mike of 80 Thoreau restaurant.
- 3 ripe avocados, seeded and peeled
- 1 plum tomato, seeded and diced
- 1/2 red onion, diced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
- 1/3 cup cilantro, chopped
- Juice of 1 lime
- Salt and pepper to taste
Mash the avocados using the back of a fork or a potato masher until you get the desired consistency (you can leave it chunky or make it smoother).
Fold in the tomato, onion, garlic, jalapeno and cilantro. Mix in the lime juice and then add salt and pepper as needed.
Place one avocado pit in the guacamole to help keep it from turning brown. Allow it to sit at room temperature for a couple hours before serving.
