Late addition Clemons re-signs with 'Skins

Linebacker Chris Clemons, a late-season pickup who became an unexpected impact player during the final month of the season, re-signed with the Washington Redskins.

ASHBURN, Va. (March 21, 2005) -- Linebacker Chris Clemons, a late-season pickup who became an unexpected impact player during the final month of the season, re-signed with the Washington Redskins.

Clemons played in just six games as a reserve after being signed in November, but had a sack in his NFL debut against Pittsburgh and two more and a forced fumble over the next five games.

He played defensive end in passing situations, giving the team another option for pressuring the quarterback.

The Redskins have been courting a pass-rushing end, free agent Courtney Brown, over the last week. Brown visited the Redskins on March 17, but also is talking with Denver and Jacksonville.

Clemons spent 2003 with the Redskins on injured reserve with a torn knee ligament and was cut at the end of the 2004 training camp. He was on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad when Washington signed him to the active roster on Nov. 24.

The Redskins also re-signed receiver Gari Scott, who spent last season on the practice squad, and released linebacker Maurice Jones.
